For the last 20 years I have been working with movement, both for my own self-exploration and as a way of supporting others on their journeys. My extensive background as a Physiotherapist (Cologne, Germany) and mentor in Neurological and Sports Rehabilitation, Prevention and Pediatric Therapy has provided me with a strong interdisciplinary approach to my work. In Germany I worked as an Instructor of the Bobath Concept (Neuro Developmental Therapy) in the fields of Physiotherapy and Nursing. Through my training in the Bobath Concept I have been drawn to our inherent capacity for learning, primarily motor learning. I was first introduced to the Feldenkrais Method In 1989.
By means of teaching, performing and having several accidents, I have realized that the real art of movement lies in how we live each day, that every thought and emotion finds its expression in the body and in our movement. I was intrigued by the connection between movement and self-development and was set to explore another avenue in my work and in my thinking. Through intensive climbing, fencing and studying the Feldenkrais Method I began to notice an improvement in the quality of how I related to my self and my environment. I became aware that the focus on effort was counterintuitive to a full exploration of human functioning in all spheres of life - when climbing or playing the cello the push for strength was reducing sensitivity and in crucial moments decreasing my ability to attend to myself with awareness. This often resulted in injuries or lessened my capacity for artistic expression. The Feldenkrais Method has served me as a means of recovery from years of chronic pain and finding my own capacity within myself to live in greater comfort. In studying Feldenkrais I found a way of pursuing my exploration of the relationship between language, thought and experience.
I graduated from the Victoria Feldenkrais Teacher Training under the direction of Dr. Jeff Haller in 2007, and have maintained a private practice in Victoria, British Columbia since 2003. I work with people who have severe pain or disability, often neurological; with performing artists and athletes, from infants to 89 years young.
The uniqueness and ever changing needs of each client are of utmost importance to me.
Convinced that healing starts with an open mind towards self-change, the focus of my work lies in my compassionate dedication to teaching people how to regain their abilities to move with efficiency and ease, how to reclaim co-ordination and enjoyment in their lives. I bring my expertise to my teaching and sessions and offer an engaging approach to human learning by providing attentive support and a unique and encouraging environment for this process to take place.
I am the owner and operator of the Feldenkrais Institute of Victoria – Centre for Movement Education. In addition to teaching individual sessions I teach workshops and weekly Awareness Through Movement classes.
I am a member of the Feldenkrais Guild of North America, the professional organization for accredited Feldenkrais Practitioners, and of the Reflexology Association of Canada.
I made Victoria, British Columbia my home in 2001- I love the magnificent outdoors and have realized my dream of living by the ocean.
